Coaxial assemblies have been used almost universally for RF applications or microwave applications, with the exception of certain assemblies and equipment where RF signals need to be efficiently conducted using waveguides or planar transmission lines. Thus, examples of coaxial assemblies can be found in a wide variety of applications including: components, bench-top instruments or equipment, indoor, outdoor, aircraft, land vehicles, machinery, robotics, spacecraft, satellites, and more. Given the very wide range of uses, a wide variety of coaxial cable and connector technologies and characteristics follow. The assembly of all such coaxial technologies is equally complex and requires the use of tools. However, there are some common types of coaxial cables and connectors that are assembled utilizing a standard series of tools and methods. Standardized coaxial cables are used in military applications.RG type coaxial cables are already very common. This triggered the RG coaxial cable . Common tools and practices for assemblies. either within the equipment or by hand during installation or repair. Although there are many coaxial cables with additional layers, a typical RG-type coaxial cable consists of four layers. The four basic layers of a coaxial cable are: the outer protective jacket (insulator), the metal shield, the dielectric insulator and the center conductor. The design of coaxial connectors is basically the same except that the outer protective jacket is different. In essence, the coaxial cable metal shield or external conductor must be as far as possible with the coaxial connector of the outer shield unified connection, dielectric insulator must be the same way coaxial connector connection, which can reduce the impedance change, at the same time, the center conductor must be as far as possible with coaxial connector pin unified connection.
Method of operation: To connect these connectors, the outer protective jacket of the coaxial cable must first be removed, the specified number usually referring to the number of precision cut coaxial cable ends. It is important to note that the ends of the coaxial cable are cleanly cut without reducing the coaxiality of the cable and ensuring that no metal fragments remain in the insulation. The removal of the outer protective sheath is usually accomplished using standard preparation tools designed to complete the removal of the outer protective sheath without damaging the outer shielding, and after removal the shielding of the foiled, corrugated, or stranded conductors is mechanized to fit over the outer conductor fixings of the coaxial connector. Upon completion of the above process, some of the dielectric insulator may be stripped from the center conductor to enable soldering, crimping, or press-fitting of the center conductor to the coaxial connector center pin fixture. The coaxial connection is usually accompanied by a metal ring to reinforce the mechanical connectors on the outer conductors of the cable and to ensure good RF shielding. Once the coaxial cable has been spliced, soldered or otherwise assembled to the connector, additional heat shrink tubing or tape is often used to ensure a strong mechanical connection between the outer jacket of the coaxial cable and the connector. The use of heat shrink tubing or tape at the connection interface between the cable and the connector reduces strain at the conductor-dielectric connection and ensures that the coaxial assembly will continue to function as intended under certain strains, loads, or bends.
