Voltage testing of connectors

Principle of action: The withstand voltage test is to check whether the specified voltage is applied between the contacts of the connector (or between the contacts and the housing), between the connecting wires of the wiring harness, and between the circuits of the circuit board within the specified time. voltage to determine whether it can work safely at the rated voltage and can withstand overvoltages caused by similar phenomena such as switch surges. The breakdown is manifested as a flashover (surface discharge), a spark discharge (air discharge), or a breakdown discharge (breakdown discharge). Excessive leakage currents may lead to changes in electrical parameters or physical properties. Due to the overvoltage, even below the breakdown voltage, it may damage the insulation or reduce its safety factor. Therefore, the dielectric withstand voltage test should be carefully carried out. If the test voltage needs to be applied continuously in routine tests, it is preferable to reduce the potential in subsequent tests.
