Stability is a consideration for connectors

Stability is a factor when considering connectors, and although miniature board-to-board connectors are typically less than 1mm thick, they are also commonly used in tightly packaged applications. To address potential packaging concerns, designers need to consider the line alignment on the PCB, as well as the additional wires attached to the connector. "Because the pitch gets smaller, you have to make the alignment and wires narrower." Also, keep in mind that some connectors (e.g., flex cable connectors) offer the option to flip forward and backward. When working on your system design, you'll need to consider these flip-flop methods. A connector that flips backward, for example, may be difficult to access if there is another component on the front and back. Finally, designers also need to be aware that surface mount devices sometimes can't handle smaller components. Look for situations where they will need new vacuum nozzles to solve these problems. Figure out the current-loading capacity: As connector size decreases, so does the connector's current-loading capacity. In general, miniature connectors can handle currents between 200mA and 500mA, almost half the current rating of a little larger board-to-board connector. To compensate for the lower current-carrying capacity, designers may need to increase the number of terminals. Connector factors should be considered during the circuit design process; don't put connectors off until the last stage of the design, or you could easily get stuck at the last step of your design!
