PCI-E (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) is a bus standard for connecting hardware devices inside a computer. It provides different transfer rates through different numbers of lanes, usually denoted as x1, x4, x8, or x16. PCI-E x1 refers to a PCI-E slot with a single lane. To summarize, transfer rates for PCI-E cables can go from 2.5 Gbps all the way up to 32 Gbps depending on the configuration and standard, and these rates are likely to increase even further as new PCI-E standards become available.
