Self-aligning and zero-force mating for quick and easy connections, making component connections easy, reliable and durable. The electrical connection is established by Maxnetic spring loading and mating the target pins as the magnet pulls the connector together and holds it in place. The connectors do not need to be aligned or inserted, nor do they require any hardware to maintain the connection, making the 878 Series magnetic connectors ideal for use in environments where cables are repeatedly plugged and unplugged from equipment. The ability to connect quickly, plug in blind, and disconnect in an emergency without damaging components makes the connectors ideal for a wide variety of applications including medical environments and portable device docking/charging stations.The Maxnetic product line features a pair of connectors that includes a through-hole PCB-mounted, spring-loaded connector and a shielded target connector with solder cup termination. The combination is ideal for cable-to-device applications. They are single row connectors with 2 to 6 positions and a pin pitch of 0.1575" (4 mm). The spring-loaded connectors have an on-board height of 0.378" (9.6 mm) and contain spring-loaded pins with a larger stroke of 0.090" (2.3 mm). They have a life of up to 1,000,000 cycles, a contact resistance of 25 milliohms, a current rating of 7.2 A per pin (current ratings are based on individual pin derating in free air), and all components are gold plated. The target connector is shrouded to ensure alignment and mating with the spring-loaded mating connector and features gold-plated solder cup pins adapted for up to 16 AWG wire. The use of rugged neodymium (NdFeB) magnets on both connectors provides an average separation force of 1.4 lb (636 g) [1 lb (454 g) min]. It enables connectors to be aligned and connected over greater distances of 0.500 " (12.7 mm). The connectors can be used for power or signal transmission and can be mounted vertically or horizontally. The use of high-quality Mill-Max spring loaded pins ensures better electrical and mechanical reliability.
