With the popularization of 5G (fifth generation mobile communication system), the data communication speed of portable devices such as smartphones has accelerated, and in order to cope with the increasing traffic volume, various countries are promoting the application of millimeter wave for high-speed communication that can utilize a wide bandwidth 10 times that of 4G. In this context, smartphones that support 5G millimeter wave will be equipped with a millimeter wave antenna module called AiP (Encapsulated Antenna). Since the signal transmission between the AiP and the motherboard requires a high-frequency RF connector, Japan Avionics (JAE) developed and marketed the Wave-stack ™, an ideal RF connector for AiP trunking with high shielding performance and high-frequency characteristics. The Wave-stack ™ of Japan Avionics Industry Corporation (JAE) is the brand of "fully shielded board-to-board (FPC) connectors", which features high contact reliability, assembly machinability and robustness, which are the industry-leading characteristics of the WP series of interior board-to-board (FPC) connectors, while also having the high-frequency signal quality required for AiP connections and the like and high shielding performance as an EMI countermeasure.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------Wave-stack ™ application examples: 1. AiP transmission [Smartphone]: In order to meet the challenge of millimeter wave directivity, multiple antennas (AiP) are arranged in different directions and relay transmission between AiP and motherboard through high-frequency FPC. The signal received by millimeter wave band communication is converted into an intermediate frequency (about 15 GHz or less) in the AiP, and is transmitted to the main board circuit through the connector ① assembled on the AiP, the high-frequency FPC in which the connector is assembled, and the connector ② assembled on the main board. In order to maintain this transmission path characteristic, a "Wave-stack ™" RF connector for board-to-board (FPC), which has high shielding performance and high frequency characteristics, is employed.
2. Sub-6 antenna transmission: Although small coaxial connectors and coaxial wires have been used for antenna transmission of up to 6G
3. Four features of WP16RS series WP16RS fully shielded board-to-board (FPC) connector:: 3.1: Fully shielded structure provides excellent EMI protection, 3.2: RF terminals with excellent high-frequency signal quality, 3.3: Small high-current multi-purpose terminals, 3.4: High robustness and alignment of fully armored structure
4. Fully shielded structure suppresses radiated noise: Since a high level of shielding performance is required in AiP transmission, radiated noise, which is a problem in high-frequency transmission, is suppressed by providing a fully shielded structure in which the entire periphery (the entire transmission path) of the connector including the terminal portion (soldering portion) of the connector is covered by the housing.
5. Industry-leading high-frequency signal quality:
6. Smaller volume and larger current: By adopting a narrow pitch of 0.35 mm in the signal terminal and a new "Logical-contact ™" with a new contact structure corresponding to 1A/target, compared with existing products, the width size is miniaturized and space-saving, and at the same time, it also corresponds to large current.
7. Enhanced robustness and alignment: High robustness and alignment are ensured by the use of a circular flared deep-drawn housing and the provision of metal rails (internal armor) inside the connector.
