MPO Fiber Optic Connector

MPO fiber optic connectors are widely used in high-speed communication, data communication network, data center, industrial automation system and other fields.

The multi-fiber plug-in (MPO) connector was developed by Mechanical Transmission (MT) technology developed by Nippon Telephone and Telegraph Corporation (NTT) in 1986. NTT has developed the first MPO connector to push or pull plugs and adapters with a compact physical contact (PC) solution that makes operation easier. Prior to this, the connection must rotate the coupling nut manually. The space needed for this application was too large for systems that were being developed in the 80s and 90s. These systems require high-density, low-cost connectivity to support high-speed communication networks. MPO connectors provide the desired high density and good maneuverability. As data centers explode, so does the amount of fiber required. Traditionally, using multiple fiber optic cables required trained technicians to shut down each fiber individually, a time-consuming and costly endeavor. MPO connectors have been widely adopted since 1990, reducing the time, effort and space required to install and deploy networking technologies. In 1996, the IEC standardized MPO. In the same year, CONEC in the United States released high-performance multi-fiber termination (MTP) connectors. MTP connectors allow installers to not only connect more fibers in a smaller space, but also 8 to 12 fibers at a time, greatly reducing the time required for installation and testing. The advantages of MTP connectors are removable housing, floating sleeve to improve mechanical properties, stainless steel elliptical guide pin to reduce air hole wear, metal pin clip to prevent needle misalignment, center spring force to prevent fiber damage, connector spring design to make full use of fiber to prevent fiber damage.
