Omniball ® Spring Ejector Contacts Mill-Max's Omniball Spring Contacts are specifically designed for sliding and rotating connections Mill-Max's unique Omniball Spring Ejector Contacts (patent pending) feature a rolling ball interface that enables lateral, rotational and angular alignment of mating assemblies while providing optimal electrical, mechanical and structural reliability. The Omniball contact (0945-0-15-20-09-14-11-0) is a spring ejector, and the traditional tip is replaced by a gold-plated ball. It is intended to simplify and improve inter-component connections that fit together in sliding or rotational motion rather than axial or vertical directions. When engaged, the balls compress and roll, bringing the mating surfaces into contact, and then easily slide parallel to each other, while the spring force ensures consistent electrical contact. This rolling action alleviates concerns that connector damage, such as bonding, premature wear, and structural failure, can occur when using traditional plunger-style spring pins in these types of applications. Features of the Omniball contacts include a maximum travel of 0.030 "(0.762 mm), an overall height of 0.266" (6.76 mm), gold plating on all components, and surface mount terminals. These spring pins are durable. They have been tested for 1,000,000 compression and rolling cycles at half stroke while still meeting specifications, with a maximum contact resistance of 20 ohms, a 3.5 amp current rating and 55 grams of spring for mid-stroke (0.015 ", 0.381 mm). Omniball contacts are an excellent choice for any application involving sliding or swivel connections, such as twist-lock cable connectors, smart lens camera connectors, rugged IP protection grade connectors (including quarter-turn and threads), and docking, quick-connect and blind-fit applications.
