The I-PEX connector product family includes a range of connectors that employ a universal design concept with multiple connection methods. For PCB module products that need to be suitable for a variety of electronic devices, adopting connectors with universal design concepts means that a variety of connection methods can be selected. With the increase of optional connection methods for PCB modules, the targeted equipment market will also expand. I-PEX recommends the use of universal design-type connectors that support the option of more connection methods, especially when developing highly versatile modules. In addition, the I-PEX VS connector series (0.5 mm pitch) and the CABLINE ®-CA connector series (0.4 mm pitch) can be mounted on a fully EMC shielded connector (ZenShield ®) common to their footprints, respectively. Therefore, if there is an EMC issue during the product development phase, a universal connector and a fully EMC shielded connector (ZenShield ®) can be compared by pre-creating an evaluation board with a common footprint. This will allow customers to validate the need for fully EMC shielded connectors from the early stages of development.

2. Universal FPC/FFC: The I-PEX automatic locking FPC/FFC connector series (EVAFLEX ®) also has universal design connectors, allowing horizontal or vertical mating directions to be selected for common FPC/FFC designs. Since the fitting direction can be varied without changing the FPC/FFC, the module can be applied to a wider range of applications.
