Connectors are a common part in basically all new projects of electronic devices. Mastering the connectors that can be used and the frequently asked questions of specifications and models that must be remembered seems to be very critical in the design process. You undoubtedly don't expect to realize that you have to upgrade the content and adjust the new project to incorporate this modification when the new project is close to the prelude, which will increase time and cost. If you are analyzing connectors for a project, you must consider some common problems when selecting connector specifications. Some difficult questions include: How many contacts must the connector be? How should the connectors for your application be installed? What is the installation method and what is required for installation? What termination methods do you need or expect to choose for your application? Does the selected connector have to be protected against intrusion security? How much operating voltage and current is estimated to be borne by the connection?

When there are many contacts, the number of contacts required for the connector is already known. However, sometimes other necessities of overall use and the ease of use of each connector will ultimately jeopardize the specification and model of the selected connector. In addition, it is necessary to further consider the switching power supply that the connector needs to solve, because this will have an impact on the selected connector. As the output power volume of the connector continues to increase, you will notice that the number of contacts in all package/chassis sizes will decrease. This is because higher rail and/or higher operating voltages require a lot of indoor space. Some manufacturers try to increase the current rating by raising a lot of protection in the middle of the contacts and increasing the total "spacing" of the electrical isolation from one contact to another. In addition, some connectors contain grounding device contacts built into other contacts. This contact is longer than the other contacts in the connector to reduce/remove the electrical isolation between the two engaged/non-engaged connectors. The following key points should be kept in mind and considered in the whole process of selecting connectors. How many connectors and contacts must you or expect to use to input switching power supplies into/out of the enclosure? General Contact Composition Types of Connectors Only Switching Power Supply Contacts Only Data Signal Contacts Only Switching Power Supply and Data Signal Contacts Data Signal Grounding Device Contacts For new projects where only one connector can be used, it is likely that a slightly larger connector will have to be used to include all contacts. If the data signal and output power contacts are separated, the required installation room space will be increased. However, this may be the basic reasonable layout provision of the application, or the function of the application causes the two contacts to be separated.

The technical terms "installation" and "termination" often exchange applications, but it must be borne in mind that they are not exchangeable from beginning to end and are different from each other. Installation refers to how all new items and connectors are connected/fixed/adhered as a whole. Termination refers to how to carry out protective grounding. Buried hole mounting and surface patch in most cases refer to connectors that can be mounted and terminated by special methods (details of "Termination Methods" below). The following is a very likely example of the composition of mounting, meshing and termination: Select control panel mounting Apply beveled surface patch contacts terminate to circuit board Meshing connector 1 Connector 2 Select external thread termination for arbitrary suspension connector Termination method What termination method is required for each end or connection? If there is no special category specification indicated in advance, the termination method can be determined according to my preference. However, some applications may require special kinds of termination.
